Goode Learning is excited to announce our Free Virtual Parent Workshop Series, designed to empower parents and caregivers with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to support their child’s education journey. Whether you’re navigating special education services or additional support for the first time, or looking to deepen your understanding and strengthen your advocacy skills, these interactive sessions will provide valuable insights, tips and practical strategies.
Each workshop uses a simple ABC approach, breaking big topics into smaller parts so you can understand, plan, and advocate more effectively.
Series Topics
Our four-part series will cover these key topics:
Workshop 1: The ABCs of IEPs (Individual Education Plans)
Learn how an IEP should be individualized to support the unique learning needs of your child.
- Awareness – Understanding the purpose and components of an IEP
- Benefit – Understanding how an IEP should improve your child’s educational experience
- Collaboration – Working with the school team to develop an effective plan
Workshop 2: The ABCs of Transitions
Discover practical strategies to support your child through different types of transitions.
- Anticipate – Prepare and plan for changes before they happen
- Bridge – Connect home and school supports for a smooth transition
- Confidence – Help your child feel secure and ready for new environments
Workshop 3: The ABCs of Advocacy
Build confidence in communicating with educators and administrators, understanding your rights, and making your voice heard in the education process.
- Ask – Know what your child’s rights are and question what is not clear
- Be Heard – Communicate your child’s needs clearly and respectfully
- Collaborate – Work with the school team to find solutions together
Workshop 4: The ABC of IPRCs (Identification, Placement, and Review Committees)
Understand the IPRC process, what to expect during meetings, and how to prepare effectively to ensure the best outcomes for your child.
- Assessment – Understand how data collected through observations, diagnoses and assessments influence the identification of your child as an exceptional student and what special education placements may be offered
- Balance – Consider your child’s strengths, needs, and options for supports in order to make informed decisions about accepting special education placements
- Criteria – Understand the Ministry categories of Exceptionality
